Travis Bickle reincarnation or nutcase taxi driver running for office........

Talking about crazy taxi drivers? How about cab driver who wants to be politician?

ST  PETERSBURG — As Americans honored the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, a Republican candidate for Florida House District 68 said President Barack Obama should be hanged for war crimes.

"I'm past impeachment," Joshua Black wrote on Twitter. "It's time to arrest and hang him high."

The tweet caught the attention of Chris Latvala, a Republican candidate for House District 67.

"You aren't seriously calling for the killing of Obama are you?" Latvala replied. "I know you are crazy but good heavens. U R an embarrassment."

Advertising on Taxi Cabs in Florida

Own a Taxi Firm in Florida? Think About Third Party Advertising

By JC

Florida is a pretty big State so you would think there is plenty of business to go around if you own a taxi company. However, for those of you that don’t know, this is a highly competitive market! Cities like Orlando, Tampa, Miami and a host of others are all massive tourist attractions and many thousands of people pass through each year.
You might be forgiven for thinking that tourists alone will be able to sustain a cab firms business but this isn’t the case. You need to make sure you have regular custom from the locals as well. Perhaps you’ve managed to land a contract with a hotel (or two) which means you get “first go” on anyone who is staying there and doesn’t have transport of their own. They might need a friendly face to ferry them about the city so they can go to business meetings, or take in the sights. It could also be that your cab drivers are the first in line for airport runs as well.
This is just one example of how you can ensure you get regular business all year round however; if you intend to expand your taxi business there is always going to be the question of advertising. After all, you won’t get extra business if prospective clients don’t know you’re there! This is where third party advertising can really help.

What Is Third Party Advertising?

This is actually a very clever idea. We’ve all seen cabs rushing about the city with stickers on their bumpers, plastic type billboards on top of the taxi and even signs that are illuminated from inside. All of these are what’s known as third party advertising and it can really help not just your business but others as well.
For instance, you can contact various businesses in your local area like restaurants, hotels, tour operating companies and a whole host of others that will benefit from having their name on your cab. If you think this is going to need the hard sell, think again! You have a very strong argument when talking to various other business owners in the area.
Think about it? The average taxi driver across the State of Florida who operates in the major cities is passing by an ever growing population each and every day. In an average month a cab driver

Taxi Driver correspondence from Singapore

Only Government Decision can Change the Taxi Model here.

By: Lim James

I told my wife: ” Honey, I am very sorry to tell you that you are married to a prostitute”.

She stared at me with her mouth wide open and said: ” Honey, what do you mean? Are you bisexual? Are you having sex with men too”?.

I replied "No. I am neither bisexual nor I've ever had sex with males. By saying I am a prostitute, I meant that I am a taxi driver. A taxi driver in Singapore is nothing but a prostitute. Think of it. We have this blood-sucking government agency called LTA in our back, day in and day out, busy summonsing cab drivers to their offices, pulling their pants down and verbally screwing them. Then we have the blood thirsty taxi operators that don’t bother fixing the cabs properly like changing worn-out tyres and removing ABS air-bags and as a result cab drivers end up having accidents and dying. Then you have the traffic cops giving you questionable tickets for picking or dropping in a bus lanes. To top it all is having to deal with all those mentally sick, drunken ang-moh and fare beaters. Like prostitutes, we have to service our customers without questions once they land their buttocks on our seats. Who is around to protect us and hear our complaints".

"Having to go through all these if it is not a prostitution what would you name a cab driving profession here in Singapore? A professional road pilot?. But, thankfully no other job would give an old man like me $25,000 a year. And thankfully again, 99% of my passengers are GOOD people. Thank you, Sir & Madam, from the bottom of my heart!. But, I have lost my self respect and dignity for that f...king $25,0000 per year."............

May be you should become taxi driver in Las Vegas just for one weekend, before you make any statements or try to imprint taxi driver image on you unaware readers

"The Biggest Scam In Vegas May Be Your Taxi Ride
Las Vegas is famous for shady characters who try to stay under the radar: card counters, bookies and, um, others. But some of the shadiest may be hiding in plain sight: taxi drivers.
“We conservatively estimate airport passengers were overcharged $14.8 million in 2012,” reads an audit report on taxi services in Las Vegas, presented to the Nevada State Legislature last week.
The biggest scam: long hauling, taxi-speak for deliberately taking an indirect route. The audit found that long hauling occurred on 22.5 percent of taxi rides from the city’s McCarran Airport.
“Vegas is one of the most popular airports for taxi scams,” says Todd Romaine of IHateTaxis. com, which provides info about local transportation from airports worldwide. In volume of scams, he puts Vegas on par with Rome, Bangkok and Cairo...."

Talk to your taxi driver

There isn’t anyone who is going to tell you it's time to grow up. Well, there is, but you probably won’t listen to them. I don’t mean growing up in the way of paying your bills, or moving out of your parents' house, or buying your own car. I mean growing up in the sense of knowing who you are, understanding your values and being true to your core.
There is a moment in life when you know it's time to make a change. I call it your “happiness GPS” pointing you in the right direction. Something inside you is telling you, “This is not the right way,” and sometimes, if you continue to go in the wrong direction, the universe will send you a big wake up call. This is what happened to me.
I went to college to be a teacher and entered a five-year bachelor's/master's program when I was 20 years old. Anyone who thinks they know who they are when they are 20 years old is horribly mistaken. When I was 20, I was convinced I was going to be married by 23, have children at 26, and be happily settled with my husband in the suburbs. But my “happiness GPS” had other plans for me.........

Trenton, NJ taxi Driver Killed on the job

Cab drivers in Trenton are on their own

TRENTON — Hitel Blair has worked as a cab driver in Trenton for more than 20 years and has giving rides to hundreds of strangers. He doesn’t remember every stranger, but he does remember the stranger that pulled a knife on him on a sunny afternoon 20 years ago.
“I saw the glare as I was driving. So I grabbed his hand and last thing I know I’m driving and holding this man’s hand to stop the knife from touching me,” Blair said........

Benefits of Being a Taxi Driver in Tampa Bay

By Danielle Antosz

People become taxi drivers for many different reasons. No one is born knowing they want to be a taxi driver, usually circumstances push them to the job. With that being said, there are a lot of perks of being a taxi driver, and most of us love what we do. The hours are long, and slow shifts are tedious, but there is a reason we do it year after year. If you are considering becoming a Tampa taxi driver, here are a few things you can look forward to.

Be your own Boss!
Starting a business is expensive – you have to pay for overhead, taxes, licenses, equipment, and product. If you are looking for an easy way to be your own boss, taxi driving is a great place to start!

Your employment situation can vary based upon how your company is set up, but most Tampa taxi drivers rent their car from a taxi company or they own their own car and pay for dispatches from a company. There is no boss leaning over your shoulder all shift, and once you cover your fees the rest of the profit is yours. Which means the harder you work, the more money you make. And, unlike other startup businesses, the startup costs are relatively low.

Every Day is Payday
Instead of waiting for payday, you get to take home cold, hard cash after every shift. No more extreme budgeting to make sure you can last to next payday. However,

The Effects of Taxi Driving on Your Health & How to Improve Your Health

by Danielle Antosz

Tampa Bay taxi drivers have a tough job. While sitting down and driving a car all day might not be as physically demanding as, say, a construction job, it can still wreak havoc on your health. What is even worse is that many taxi drivers do not have health insurance or paid sick days. If you drive a taxi it is up to you to cover your health costs - even if your poor health is caused by your job.

The Effects of Driving a Tampa Bay Taxi on your Health

The fact is Tampa taxi drivers often spend as many as 12 hours a day sitting down while working a high stress job. This type of lifestyle is terrible for your health. In fact, medical studies show that sitting down for most of the day increases the chance that you will die by over 50%. Add the stress of the job and a poor diet eaten on the run, taxi drivers are at a serious risk of heart attack or stroke. So what can you do to improve your health? You don’t need to overhaul your entire lifestyle – even just a few small changes to your day will make you happier and healthier.

Eat Better

The poor diet of many taxi drivers is only part of the problem, but is still very important. First, you need to eat less junk food. It is awfully convenient to drive through during a quick break, but try packing a light lunch a few times a week. Even a sandwich and a few chips are better than a greasy burger and salty fries. Also, try substituting water for soda or coffee. Water contains less calories and also helps flush toxins from your system.

Get Exercise!

As humans we are not meant to be sedentary. Our bodies are designed to walk, hunt, and run. Sitting behind a steering wheel all day increases your stress level, causes heart problems, and results in weight gain. But, you don’t have to spend hours pumping iron at the gym. The Mayo Clinic says that a daily brisk walk can help you maintain a healthy weight, improve your mood, strengthen your bones, and help prevent heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure.

Take a Vacation

If you are a taxi driver, you know how stressful the job can be. And without paid vacation time, taking time off can be difficult. Think of it as an investment in your future – taking a few days off to relax (along with a few other lifestyle changes!) can result in better health for years to come.
Driving a taxi is not an easy job – drivers deal with long hours, high stress, and most drivers eat a poor diet. If you drive a taxi, it is important to take the time to take care of yourself. For your friends, and all those who love you.

Taxi driver killed by drunk driver

by Sash Brown

When Paul Douglas Miller, was driving his cab down the stretch of Woodlawn road in Charlotte, North Carolina at 2:00 a.m., it was unlikely that he was thinking about whether or not he would see the sun rise over the Charlotte skyline. He may have been imagining the comfort of his bed and sleeping while the sun was still black. His mind could have been dusting off parts of his childhood that he had maybe forgotten or wanted to forget. Paul Miller could have been wondering which gas station served the best coffee so he could effectively complete the end of his shift.

On May 3, 2013, Paul Douglas Miller, was ejected from his taxi and landed on the cold, early morning pavement after being hit by a drunk driver. While he lay there staring at what would have been the last moments of his life, 23 year-old Justin Miller, drunkenly stumbled out of his car and ran, leaving Paul Douglas Miller lying on the ground gasping for air; Paul, died on his way to the hospital.  Caught shortly after, Justin Miller treated for his injuries, arrested and charged with felony death by a motor vehicle, felony hit and run, driving while impaired, and driving while licensed revoked.

Taxi cab drivers are no strangers to the Justin Millers of the world.  They are the stumbling intoxicated passengers that scramble into cabs and hang their heads out the windows so the breeze would catch bits and pieces of their overindulgence. The Paul Millers of the same world continue to drive their cab and scrunch up their noses at the offensive odor in the taxi. They drive their cab a little faster so they have time to wipe down the seats and spray an air freshener to cover up the smell before they return it to the lot.

Some bars in the Charlotte region have a list of the taxi companies in the area; some even go as far as taking the keys of an intoxicated patron and calling the cab for them. The cab drivers are the designated drivers and the ones who create and execute a plan when it comes to dealing with passengers who are incapable of driving themselves. In hindsight, not many of them think about what might happen if a person decided to get behind the wheel instead of taking a more responsible approach to getting home safely. In the case of Paul Douglas Miller, he had no designated person or special warning to inform him a drunk driver was about to end his life.  His story, as tragic as it is, whispers an eerie song of irony. Justin Miller, the drunk driver who killed Paul Douglas Miller, is alive and sitting in jail. His freedom would have been spared one way or the other, if he had dialed the number to Speedy Cab, the company that employed Paul Douglas Miller. Both Miller men could have laughed about having the same last name while one man had his head out of the window and the other would have been driving a little faster wondering what he did with his new pine tree air freshener.

Travis Bickle, a Taxi Driver in NYC / psychological Profile

in relation to other villains of today, was Travis Bickle crazy? was he a hero? was he a lost soul in big city? mentally injured Vietnam War veteran? a social outcast? what do you think?
IMO, he was total nut case, whose certain principles, believes and luck prevented him from becoming mass murderer like those guys of today who kill kids in schools or blow up Boston Marathon, yet system made him a hero....
.....and Martin Scorsese made a Taxi Driver a hero for disillusioned post Vietnam War generation of late 1970's with wide acceptance, but just short of making Travis Bickle a monster....
Taxi Driver with Robert De Niro is a Great Movie, a True Classic .

The Last Temptation of Travis Bickle >> Read More
Today, Martin Scorsese is considered by the majority of film critics as the greatest living American director. In a survey done in the early nineties, Raging Bull was elected as the best American film of the eighties. But it wasn't always so. In the seventies, his films had a tendency to upset as much as to be acclaimed. He was mainly criticized for his use of extreme violence, his portrayal of disturbingly unsympathetic and unredeemable characters and his morbid fascination with failure as a dramatic drive. Taxi Driver became the emblem of this negative criticism.
Winner of the Palme d'Or at the 1976 Cannes Film Festival, the film celebrated its twentieth anniversary last year and remains as powerful and disturbing as ever, particularly in regard to the ambiguous ending in which psychopath taxi driver Travis Bickle survives his killing rampage. The years have elevated it to the status of an American classic. Countless hommages and tributes have been made to Taxi Driver in such recent films as Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs , Mathieu Kassovitz's La Haine and Danny Boyle's Trainspotting . There is even a film whose title Are You Talkin' to Me? is a line taken from Bickle's famous monologue.
After twenty years, one would think that everything has been said about Taxi Driver . But what if there existed a new approach to the film, especially a new way to interpret the enigmatic ending that still puzzles many viewers? What if this new reading could radically change our perception of other Scorsese films? What if a continuous linkage could be thus created from Taxi Driver through The King of Comedy, After Hours, Goodfellas , all the way to the more recent Casino ? And what if the main clue bringing together all these films could be found in The Last Temptation of Christ ? This is the subject and goal of this analysis of the second ending of Taxi Driver

Life after being a Taxi Driver

Notes From A Retired Cab Driver

By Dmitry Samarov

I quit driving a cab in Chicago a couple months ago after nine years on the job. Do something 12 to 14 hours a day, six or seven days a week for that length of time and there's no way it won't shape your relationship with the world. I've spent these recent weeks recalibrating because I no longer wanted my life to be led from behind the wheel. Closing that driver's-side door has been eye opening.

A cab driver's life is unlike most others'. He spends hours and hours randomly looping around the city, punctuated by the lucky short spurts when he's got a fare. Then the meter goes on and he's operating at the passenger's pace. Of course there are drivers who subject people to their own itinerary and rhythm, but those guys rarely last, burning out from running too hot or being asked by the city to seek alternate employment for any number of possible transgressions – from crashes to badly-thought-out scams. The alternating aimlessness and concentrated activity over the daily 12 hours or more makes for an often-chaotic personal life. You end up fitting all other chores and pleasures around time in the taxi. You pay to rent these vehicles so when they sit idle it weighs on the conscience. In a certain way it never feels like you're truly off-duty because at any hour of day or night you can walk out to the cab and be back on the clock.

During most of my nine years, I worked from the afternoon until late into the night. The only time I saw the sunrise was at the end of my shift, just before my head hit the pillow. Now I wake a little after my girlfriend has gone out to give the dog his morning walk, typically between 7 and 8 a.m. For all those years, I was on a diametrically opposite schedule from much of the world; now I'm trying to run along with the rest of the pack. It's novel to wake in the morning and go to sleep at night the way most other people do.

In the cab I dealt with the public all the time. Dozens of small social interactions every day would pass without a second thought. Now I rarely see anyone.........

Cab Driver from Hell

Taxi driver suspended for putting lives in 'grave danger"

Sydney cabbie Nicholas Charles Brown, 55, has had a string of complaints about him, including overcharging, short-changing, smoking, failing to assist a pregnant woman, being rude, aggressive, not knowing the way from the city to the airport and ''consuming alcohol and driving recklessly whilst conveying passengers''.

The Administrative Decisions Tribunal has suspended Mr Brown's taxi driver's licence after his actions were found to have placed his passengers and the public ''in grave danger''.

One of the 17 complaints occurred last October, when two young women in Potts Point hailed Mr Brown's cab at 10pm.

''After we had been in the taxi for a couple of minutes, the driver put on sunglasses, turned the music up and began to sing loudly. His driving was erratic and I noticed that he would frequently swig out of a can that appeared to have an alcohol .....

In sharing my thoughts, love for music and food, I hope my blog will be more pleasurable. More importantly, I blog to make a dull job a bit more interesting.//"

Taxi Drivers and Their Religious Opinions

by Sasha Brown

Eight Florida 'Star Taxi' drivers claim their boss made them choose between prayer and their job
For a practicing Muslim, prayer is as important as the daily sustenance on food is for people. Understanding this fact has brought about laws that protect both employers and employees against discrimination. Employees losing their jobs because of their race or religion often sue for financial damages and sensitivity awareness against their employers. Some win, some don’t. Everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion and freedom in America is not to be stepped upon by anyone, native or not.

In Orlando Florida, eight taxi drivers working for a certain cab company were given the option to choose between practicing their religion or their jobs. These drivers are Muslims that need to pray in certain areas for five to seven minutes, five times a day. This means that time on the job has to be sacrificed because it is to their opinion that it is their right to practice their religion regardless of what they do for a living. With this case, the taxi drivers filed a suit against their employer because of the clear violation of state, federal and local laws that sates that employers must give reasonable leeway to drivers as long as it does not become a major draw back for the business.

Taxi Drivers: Easy Targets

Taxi Drivers: Easy Targets

Taxi cab driver Annuel Delicieux shot during robbery speaks to 10 News

For cab drivers, there is always this one unforgettable ride at least in a day’s work; but for Annuel Delicieux, it was the unforgettable ride of his lifetime. At around 3 am on Dec 18, 2012 in Tampa Florida, two assailants aimed a gun at a cab driver, took his money and shot him. The two shooters, although now sitting in jail have changed his life significantly because the father of three who was just trying to make a living, who fortunately survived the shooting, now has to undergo therapy and could not work for at least a year because of the incident.

According to other cab drivers, Tampa is considered a safe place for taxi drivers. In fact, the city’s crime rate has gone down 46% for the past 6 years. Nevertheless, it does not make it any safer for cabbies working late nights to the wee hours of the morning from robberies or senseless shootings. They may have safety procedures to follow in such circumstances but readings from articles show that most of the taxi related crimes are not solely based on the intent to rob. More than half of taxi driver killings are showing an act of senseless murders due to the assailant acting out for his/her self-esteem. In the case of Mr. Delicieux for example, he already gave the robbers the money they demanded but they still shot him brutally. For wanting to create chaos from the situation, the suspects in this case still killed him even when he followed orders quickly and without a fight.

These taxi drivers working round the clock face risk factors everyday such as being defenseless working alone, late at night with cash in public and high-risk areas.

Sexual favours for cab fares common practice in Australia

Prabhjit Singh Gill cleared of assaulting girl

"You drive, you pick up a girl, and they have no money"

A TAXI driver who was cleared of raping a young woman says he has often been offered sexual favours as payment for fares and the practice that was becoming more common in the industry.

"You drive, you pick up a girl, and they have no money," the 37-year-old said.
He said he had never accepted any sexual favours for payment.

Mr Gill was yesterday acquitted by a District Court jury in Perth of raping a 25-year-old female passenger.
